Welcome to Sogn Valley Orchard

Sogn Valley Orchard was started in the early 1980's by Dennis and Judy Smith (and family).  They started with the typical standard style trees with varieties of the day (Harlsons, McIntosh, North West Greening, Wealthy & etc.).  Today many of these trees are still in full production.  In the spring of 2007 the Smith's sold the orchard to John Zimmer.  John's experience goes back many years to his youth.  Since acquiring the orchard John has maintained all of the existing varieties, plus added 200 semi-dwarf trees of new varieties (Spartan, Snow Sweet and the new variety from the University of Minnesota named Sweetango.  Hopefully these additions will be productive by 2010.

The Apple Haus is the sales room that contains the varieties of fresh Apples, Frozen Pies (Harlson Apples), Jams, Jellies, Honey, Carmel Apples (Abdullahs carmel) and Fresh Cider (after September 10th). And for 2009 right outside on the porch will be homegrown garlic, Candy (sweet, mild) onions, pumpkins, gords and squash

Since our variesties are mostly on standard root stock they are taller trees requiring ladders for most of the picking, therefore we do not currently offer pick your own.  If you want to take pictures of your children in the orchard you are welcome to.  Since we pick all of the fruit we also wash and evaluate each apple.  The premium apples are placed in a 1/4 peck bag, less than perfect apples are solid in bulk (pick your own, mix and match).  The balance of our useable apples are made into cider.

Be sure to see Pause..  We look forward to this fall and welcome you. We plan to open at noon on September 2nd, 2009.
